Goals & Achievements
Quality Education and Research in Optical Science
Innovative education and research by OpTeC members has strengthened the
optics industry in Montana by
educating employees and helping developing new products sold by local optical companies
to customers around the world. OpTeC teams are at the forefront of optical
research and interact with local optics companies and with optical researchers
from around the world. We provide a world-class education in optical science
and engineering through the departments of Physics, Electrical & Computer
Engineering, and Chemistry. Students are welcome to take classes in all of
these and other departments. Each OpTeC research group supports undergraduate
and graduate students to work on their research projects.

Hosting an
Annual Optical Conference
Each year OpTeC sponsors an Optical Science and Laser Technology
conference featuring speakers from industry at the local and national level, as
well as presentations from MSU undergraduate and graduate students, postdocs
and faculty. Keynote speakers in past years have included directors from
National Centers: Center for High Technology Materials, U of New Mexico; and Optical
Sciences Center,
U of Arizona; faculty from Cornell University,
Dartmouth College,
CREOL, U of Central Florida, and Optical
Sciences Center,
U. of Arizona; and researchers from NASA Goddard
Space Flight Center, the Air Force Research Laboratory, Albuquerque, NM, and
